Victims’ Rights Act

Our attorneys provide advice and assistance on all matters related to victim assistance law—in other words, when you have been the victim of a crime or offense and have suffered physical, psychological, or sexual harm. In particular, they can advise and support you by guiding you in the decision of whether or not to file a criminal complaint and, if applicable, in drafting and submitting a criminal complaint to the competent authority. Our firm will also assist you throughout the criminal proceedings, primarily to obtain financial compensation from the perpetrator of the offense.

The right to assistance for victims of crime is primarily governed by the Federal Act on Assistance to Victims of Crime (LAVI). This law aims to protect and support individuals who have suffered a direct violation of their physical, psychological, or sexual integrity as a result of a crime. Assistance under the LAVI is independent of the outcome of the criminal trial. Even if the perpetrator is not identified, located, or convicted, the victim may receive assistance, including financial support as well as psychological counseling.
